Stories from the Sound Bath: What Sound Healing Can Support
Every sound bath is its own journey—both mystical and practical, weaving the mystery of Spirit with the grounded reality of healing. No two experiences are ever alike. The bowls seem to meet each person exactly where they are, offering what is most needed in the moment.
I’ve been continually amazed at the depth of what unfolds in these potent sessions.
One woman told me afterward, “Now I understand why they call it a sound bath. I felt completely embraced—immersed in sound, held in a way I’ve never experienced before.”
Another client shared that after struggling with sleep for months, she slept more deeply the night of her session than she had in ages, waking clearer and more rested. During her session, the light blue bowl aligned with the throat chakra would barely play. Later, when I asked if she felt comfortable speaking her truth or expressing herself, she admitted it was something she’d always struggled with. I could relate—my own thyroid cancer felt tied to years of silenced expression. The resonance, or lack of it, in that bowl felt like a mirror, reflecting her own journey back to her.
My teacher, Cassidy, had once shared with me that when a bowl resists playing, it can sometimes point to an area that is out of alignment or longing for attention. A few minutes into the session, I was watching this unfold in real time, the bowl itself echoing her difficulty in expression. It was absolutely fascinating!
A long-time client and friend, who'd been living with dizziness and inner ear issues, found herself still feeling steadier days later. She reflected, “I’ve always loved your guided journeys and meditations—this felt like a guided sound journey.” She also told me that during her session, she sensed another presence behind me while I played. At first, she couldn’t place it, but then she smiled and said, “It was your joy—your joy was with you while you played, and I felt it. What a gift you are.” I bowed in gratitude, giggled, and told her it reminded me of the movie Inside Out—my joy being there too, so big it felt like another presence.
Some clients are incredibly visual and experience rich inner journeys of color and imagery.
After one session, a woman took a long time to return, resting deeply in the vibrations. When she finally opened her eyes, I asked if she wanted to share anything. She told me she saw an indigo blue bowl between her legs, near her womb—inky blue indigo, swirling with energy that turned into water and then whales. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing!
Once she finished sharing, I lit up and told her what I had experienced: though I played all the bowls, I felt especially drawn to the indigo blue bowl aligned with the third eye chakra—the center of deep inner sight and intuition. She had been lying with a lavender eye cover the whole time, unable to see, which made the synchronicity feel wild and mystical. I was honestly giddy—it was fascinating to witness how her inner vision reflected the very bowl I was drawn to, a living reminder of how sound is medicine and the bowls are true partners in the healing journey.
And the body knows too. I’ve noticed that while people often take a little time to return from Reiki or Energy Medicine sessions, sound baths seem to draw them even deeper. It can take much longer before they’re ready to open their eyes and sit up, a sign of the profound relaxation and recalibration happening at a cellular level.
