It’s a practice…

The world...life, it's all so heavy these days. I’d venture to guess everyone is feeling this intense energy. As a highly sensitive empath, I know some of us are feeling it even deeper. This strange and uncertain energy has put me into a bit of a frozen state these days. Freeze mode. 

 

I seem to vacillate between feelings of hope, abundance + love, and fear, anxiety + sadness. When I’m in freeze mode…

 

Actually, if you don’t know what freeze mode is… when the brain deals with trauma/danger it can go into what’s called fight, flight or freeze mode. Think of an animal in the wild. When they’re in danger they’ll stay and fight, flee the dangerous situation or freeze completely, like a deer in headlights.

So, in freeze mode my thoughts take over and I just don’t know what to do with myself. Old habits and patterns start to resurface and it’s a big ‘ol mess. However, I was gentle with myself this time. Yay for growth! I didn’t go down the rabbit hole of badgering myself with useless negativity and bullying. I didn’t go into a tizzy of shame or judgement…I simply brought AWARENESS to it all. 

 

No shame, no judgement…just AWARENESS. 

I repeat this to myself and my clients all the time.

 

That awareness made me realize that I was avoiding quiet time alone.  Sacred space, where I quiet the chaos and breathe, where my highly sensitive brain processes, where I ask my soul and the Great Mother for guidance, total avoidance. Freeze Mode was holding me hostage from the one thing that could help me feel more grounded. One of the very first things I talk about with my clients is the importance of creating quiet alone time. It’s important for all of us. 


If you’re a highly sensitive empath quiet alone time is ESSENTIAL. Remember your brain works a bit differently. You process so much slower and in much more detail. Your brain needs quiet alone time to allow that processing to happen. Your nervous system needs that break. 

 

It’s challenging to be highly sensitive, especially when the world is on fire. You’re not alone and your sensitivity is needed now more than ever! It’s the most beautiful gift to the world and goodness knows the world needs beautiful gifts right now. It’s not time to dim, it’s time to shine!  

 

Life will happen as it always does and you’ll be thrown off the track, sometimes so far it’s hard to find your way back. But here’s the key, love. You can choose to devote yourself to this healing journey every day that you have the gift of life. Consistently reminding yourself…

 

It’s a practice! 

 

One that you can show up to everyday with new breath. There will be days where you fight, flee or freeze and that’s OK, be gentle with yourself and bring awareness to your situation. By devoting yourself to a lifetime practice of healing the deal is…you never give up on yourself!  You keep showing up for yourself.

 

I devoted myself to this healing practice years ago and I will never give up. I will always come back to my breath and learn techniques to help me and those I guide through the fires. 

 

I invite you to do the same. Devote yourself to learning how to truly know, understand and honor yourself. Even the parts of yourself that you don’t like. Especially those parts. Because from your darkest shadows comes your brightest light. When that bright light shines, you illuminate the path for everyone around you. 

 

As I dive back into claiming my Quiet Alone Time and Sacred Space I feel more connected, more grounded and less frozen.

 

Here are a few easy things I’ve been doing. Take what works and leave the rest:

 

*Before you open your eyes in the morning, take 3 deep breaths and show gratitude for 3 or more things 

*Take daily walks in nature

*Earthing – stand outside on the ground with bare feet, breathing in the beautiful energy of the EARTH

*Take 3 deep breaths, 3 times a day or whenever needed

*Dance to your favorite song 

 

Maybe you’re just so frozen right now you don’t know where to start?

Or you might be treading overtime on that hamster wheel and not know how to get off?
